In about a week, Cursor Projects, the OpenAI Agents API, and Claude Code Projects all shipped the same shape: a coordinator, parallel workers, shared memory, durable cloud sessions. That is a category, not three coincidences.

It is also still a product week. “Thousands of subagents” and merge-rate charts are marketing. Most teams I see still live in one or two agents, a PR, a review, and a flaky CI. The scarce job did not become “run a fleet.” It is still the bar in Essential Skills When Generation Is Cheap: own output you did not type, catch working-but-wrong, decide where generation does not belong. A coordinator amplifies whoever already fails or succeeds at that.

When I have a scar from a bounded migration under one of these surfaces — human merge gates, overlapping branches, cost per finished PR — that is a post. Until then this stays a note: the pattern is real; the press cycle is not the craft.
