This policy describes how omid.dev (operated by Omid Farhang) handles information when you visit the site, use the contact form, or interact with blog features.

There is no user registration, no newsletter, and no online store on this site.

Who is responsible

Controller: Omid Farhang
Site: https://omid.dev/
Contact: [email protected]

What this site collects

1. Website analytics (Matomo)

omid.dev uses Matomo, self-hosted at analytics.omid.dev, to understand aggregate traffic (pages viewed, referrers, general device/browser information).

  • Analytics runs on a first-party subdomain (*.omid.dev).
  • Matomo is configured to respect Do Not Track when your browser sends that signal.
  • Matomo may use cookies or similar storage to distinguish returning visits. You can block cookies in your browser settings.

Matomo privacy documentation: https://matomo.org/privacy-policy/

2. Contact form

If you use the contact form, you may submit:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Message

The form also uses:

  • Cloudflare Turnstile — a challenge widget loaded from Cloudflare to reduce spam. Cloudflare may process technical data (such as IP address and browser signals) according to Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
  • A honeypot field — hidden from humans; if filled, the submission is ignored.

Submissions are sent to a backend endpoint (/api/contact) so I can read and reply to your message. I use this information only to respond to you and to maintain a reasonable record of correspondence. I do not sell contact details or use them for marketing lists.

3. Theme preference

If you change light/dark/system theme, that choice may be stored in localStorage in your browser (pref-theme). This stays on your device and is not sent to a server.

Search on omid.dev loads a static JSON index from this site and runs entirely in your browser. Your search queries are not sent to a third-party search provider.

5. Blog discussion and webmentions

On many posts, a Discussion section links to conversations on third-party platforms (such as X, Mastodon, Bluesky, Reddit, or Hacker News). If you post there, your content is governed by that platform’s policies, not this page.

Some posts also display webmentions fetched from webmention.io — public interactions (likes, reposts, replies) that reference the post URL. Webmention.io processes public web data; see webmention.io privacy information for their practices.

Articles may embed media (for example YouTube or Vimeo) or link to external sites such as playground.omid.dev or GitHub. Those services may collect data under their own policies when you interact with them.

What we do not collect

  • No account system or password storage on omid.dev
  • No newsletter signup or marketing automation
  • No sale of personal data to advertisers

How long data is kept

  • Analytics: retained according to Matomo settings on analytics.omid.dev (aggregate statistics).
  • Contact messages: kept as long as needed to respond and for reasonable personal record-keeping, then deleted when no longer needed.
  • Webmentions: displayed from webmention.io in near real time; I do not store a separate copy on this server.

Your choices

  • Use browser controls to block cookies or enable Do Not Track.
  • Clear localStorage to reset theme preference.
  • Contact me to ask about information you submitted via the contact form.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

I may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when I do. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
